Nestled on the picturesque island of Naoshima, Cafe Ougiya is more than just a cafe; it’s a delightful escape for the senses. This café, operating until late, is a haven for both locals and travelers, offering a delightful menu that promises to tantalize your taste buds and satisfy your hunger as you await your next ferry.

The atmosphere at Cafe Ougiya is friendly and inviting. Its minimalist décor reflects the artistic spirit of Naoshima, inspired by the works of SANNA. However, while the aesthetics are chic, some patrons have noted that the space can feel a bit chaotic at times. Don’t let that deter you, as this lively environment contributes to the cafe's charm, making every visit an experience in itself.

Cafe Ougiya’s menu is a treasure trove of culinary delights. Indulge in the delightful crunch of their karaage, which has garnered enthusiastic reviews. Customer Iyas raves, "...the karaage was a slap... Rec both the honey mustard and the mentaiko mayo," highlighting its irresistibly juicy chicken and perfect pairings. If you're in the mood for something warming and wholesome, their olive beef curry and Okayama special rice bowl are perfect choices. Julianne Bradley enthuses about the cheese dipping extravaganza: “Dipping the cheese all in the curry sauce was superb!”

Of course, one cannot visit without indulging in their famous ice cream. As ESB NYC notes, “I have to say these were pretty delicious ice cream cones.” It’s the perfect sweet treat to savor while soaking in the serene Naoshima scenery. Just remember to purchase your tickets from the vending machine first – a quirky but fun part of the experience!

In addition to its delicious offerings, Cafe Ougiya stands out as an essential stop, particularly on Mondays when many eateries are closed. As Haein Lee mentions, “When you have no other option, having a food stand within the terminal helps a lot.” After a day of exploring Naoshima's art-filled landscapes, you’ll find comfort in knowing a satisfying meal awaits you.

Whether you’re craving a hearty dish or simply a cone of exquisite ice cream, Cafe Ougiya is a must-visit gem that captures the essence of homey dining in a unique island setting. Make your way here to experience the flavors and warmth that this charming cafe has to offer.

Very few places opened on Mondays, the olive beef curry was delicious, the Okayama special rice bowl were great. Dipping the cheese all in the curry sauce was superb. Not just an alternative, rather a great place to eat and wait for your ferry...

We heard about the delicious ice cream that was available here so we decided to get a couple of cones while we were waiting for the ferry. I have to say these were pretty delicious ice cream cones and so I highly recommend giving them a try. You’d have to purchase a ticket from the vending machine and give it to the attendant and then she will give you the cones The supplies to any food that you purchase from the café they spoke English and were very friendly.

It is great that this place runs until pretty late. When you have no other option, having a food stand within the terminal helps a lot. They have warm food, drinks, ice cream, something for everyone. The interior could get better I think. The building is super minimal and chic just like SANNA’s works, but the way the operating uses the space is a bit chaotic.

The neighboring restaurants were closed at this time, which is why I decided to try the curry here. I didn’t expect much (in the terminal of the ferry, and it doesn’t look like much), but don’t be fooled: the curry with beef was pretty good taken into account it is a terminal café and pretty cheap!

The cremia ice cream is another level of yum yum yea. The ice cream may sip thru the sugar waffle cone . So lick it quick . Buy your food ticket from a vending machine and pass half the ticket to the staff
